How to compress an image to 20 KB
- Drop your image (or a batch) into the box above.
- The target is already set to 20 KB; choose JPG or WebP as the output format.
- Download the result — the final size is shown next to each file.
Why GlideConvert?
- Private by design. Your files are converted on your own device by your browser — they are never uploaded to a server. That keeps them private, avoids upload waits and means there is no queue.
- Fast. Images convert in a fraction of a second; video uses your device’s hardware encoder.
- Free. No sign-up, no watermark. 10 images, 5 audio files or one video at a time — Pro lifts the limits and removes ads.
Frequently asked questions
How do you get an image under 20 KB?
We try different compression levels and keep the highest quality whose file is 20 KB or less. 20 KB is quite small, so large photos are also scaled down — usually to around 400–600 pixels wide — which is plenty for ID photos and thumbnails.
Which format should I use?
JPG, unless the form says otherwise — it is accepted everywhere. WebP reaches the same size at better quality, but some forms reject it.
Will the photo still look good?
20 KB is enough for a passport-style headshot or a thumbnail, but not for a detailed full-size photo. Check the preview before you submit.
Can I compress several images to this size at once?
Yes, each file is compressed to 20 KB or less individually. The free plan handles 10 images at a time.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. GlideConvert runs entirely in your browser: images are processed with the browser’s built-in codecs and WebAssembly, video and audio with hardware-accelerated WebCodecs (or a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg for older formats). Nothing is sent anywhere — you can even disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded.
