How to compress images
- Drop your images into the box above — up to 10 at a time on the free plan.
- Drag the quality slider (80% is a great balance) or type a target size in KB.
- Compare the before and after sizes, then download the files or a ZIP.
Why GlideConvert?
- Private by design. Your files are converted on your own device by your browser — they are never uploaded to a server. That keeps them private, avoids upload waits and means there is no queue.
- Fast. Images convert in a fraction of a second; video uses your device’s hardware encoder.
- Free. No sign-up, no watermark. 10 images, 5 audio files or one video at a time — Pro lifts the limits and removes ads.
Frequently asked questions
How much smaller will my images get?
Photos straight from a phone or camera usually shrink by 50–80% at 80% quality with no visible difference. Images that were already heavily compressed shrink less.
Does compression remove the photo’s metadata?
By default the date taken and camera details are kept in JPG files and the GPS location is removed. You can keep or remove everything in the options.
Can I compress an image to an exact size?
Will the image dimensions change?
No, unless you ask for it. If a target size cannot be reached at a reasonable quality, the image is scaled down a little and you will see the new dimensions.
Which format gives the smallest files?
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. GlideConvert runs entirely in your browser: images are processed with the browser’s built-in codecs and WebAssembly, video and audio with hardware-accelerated WebCodecs (or a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg for older formats). Nothing is sent anywhere — you can even disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded.
