MPEG-1 / MPEG-2 Program Stream (.mpg): DVDs, VCDs and older camcorders.
MPG files hold MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 video — the technology behind Video CDs and DVDs (VOB files are MPEG-2 too). The quality can be good, but files are several times larger than modern MP4 and phones often cannot play them.
