How to Compress a Video for Email (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo)

Gmail and Yahoo Mail accept attachments up to 25 MB, Outlook up to 20 MB. A minute of iPhone video is often 100 MB or more, so it has to be compressed — or shared as a link.

Compress the video to fit

  1. Open the video compressor for email — the target is preset to 24 MB.
  2. Drop the video; for Outlook change the target to 19 MB.
  3. Click Compress and attach the MP4.

The compressor calculates the bitrate from the video’s length so the file fits, and lowers the resolution when needed so it still looks clean.

How long a video fits in 25 MB?

Roughly 1–1.5 minutes at 720p with good quality, about twice that at 480p. Cut what you do not need with Trim video first — shorter videos keep more quality.

Too long to compress?

For long videos, upload to Google Drive, OneDrive or iCloud and send the link. Gmail does this automatically for attachments over 25 MB.
