How to compress an image to 1 MB
- Drop your image (or a batch) into the box above.
- The target is already set to 1 MB; choose JPG or WebP as the output format.
- Download the result — the final size is shown next to each file.
Why GlideConvert?
- Private by design. Your files are converted on your own device by your browser — they are never uploaded to a server. That keeps them private, avoids upload waits and means there is no queue.
- Fast. Images convert in a fraction of a second; video uses your device’s hardware encoder.
- Free. No sign-up, no watermark. 10 images, 5 audio files or one video at a time — Pro lifts the limits and removes ads.
Frequently asked questions
How do you get an image under 1 MB?
We try different compression levels and keep the highest quality whose file is 1 MB or less. If a photo cannot reach the target at a good quality, it is also scaled down slightly.
Which format should I use?
JPG, unless the form says otherwise — it is accepted everywhere. WebP reaches the same size at better quality, but some forms reject it.
Will the photo still look good?
At 1 MB, a typical photo still looks sharp on screen.
Can I compress several images to this size at once?
Yes, each file is compressed to 1 MB or less individually. The free plan handles 10 images at a time.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. GlideConvert runs entirely in your browser: images are processed with the browser’s built-in codecs and WebAssembly, video and audio with hardware-accelerated WebCodecs (or a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg for older formats). Nothing is sent anywhere — you can even disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded.
