About the JPG format

What is JPG?

JPG (or JPEG) is the most widely used image format in the world. It compresses photos by discarding detail the eye barely notices, so a 12-megapixel picture fits in 2–5 MB. The trade-off is that every re-save loses a little more quality, and it cannot store transparency.

  • Opens absolutely everywhere
  • Small files for photographs
  • Adjustable quality vs. size
  • Lossy: quality drops a little with every re-save
  • No transparency
  • Blurry edges on text, logos and screenshots

Why GlideConvert?

  • Private by design. Your files are converted on your own device by your browser — they are never uploaded to a server. That keeps them private, avoids upload waits and means there is no queue.
  • Fast. Images convert in a fraction of a second; video uses your device’s hardware encoder.
  • Free. No sign-up, no watermark. 10 images, 5 audio files or one video at a time — Pro lifts the limits and removes ads.

Frequently asked questions

Which formats can I convert to JPG?

Any common image: JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, SVG and ICO. To turn the pages of a PDF into JPG images, use PDF to JPG.

What JPG quality should I choose?

90% (the default) looks identical to the original for almost any photo. 75–85% gives noticeably smaller files with hardly visible differences. Use 95–100% only if you plan to edit the image further.

What happens to transparent areas?

JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent parts of PNG, WebP, GIF or SVG images are filled with white — or any color you pick in the options.

Are the date taken and camera details kept?

Yes for photos that have them (JPG and HEIC): the date taken and camera details are copied into the JPG, and the GPS location is removed by default. You can keep everything or strip all metadata in the options.

Can I convert several images at once?

Yes. The free plan handles 10 images at a time, and you can download everything as a single ZIP. Pro removes the batch limit, converts files in parallel and supports files up to 4 GB.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. GlideConvert runs entirely in your browser: images are processed with the browser’s built-in codecs and WebAssembly, video and audio with hardware-accelerated WebCodecs (or a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg for older formats). Nothing is sent anywhere — you can even disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded.

Does it work on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows?

Yes. It works in any up-to-date browser — Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox or Samsung Internet — on phones, tablets and computers, with nothing to install. On phones, extremely large images may be scaled down to fit within the browser’s memory limit; you will see a note if that happens.
