How to Reduce Image File Size (to 100 KB, 50 KB or Less)
Job portals, government forms and visa applications often accept only small images — 100 KB, 50 KB, sometimes 20 KB. Two things shrink a photo: lower compression quality and fewer pixels.

Compress to an exact size
- Open the compressor for your limit: 100 KB, 50 KB, 20 KB — or Compress image and type any size.
- Drop the photo (JPG, PNG, HEIC and more).
- Download the result; the final size is shown next to it.
The tool finds the highest quality that fits and only reduces the dimensions when it has to.
Choose the right format
JPG is accepted everywhere and is ideal for photos. PNG screenshots compress well by reducing colors (Compress PNG). WebP and AVIF are smaller still, but many forms reject them.
Resize first for very small targets
A 12-megapixel photo cannot look good at 20 KB, but a 600×600 headshot can. For ID-style photos, crop and resize with the passport photo resizer.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my compressed image still too big?
Some forms count kilobytes as 1,000 bytes rather than 1,024. Aim a few KB below the limit to be safe.
Does compression remove metadata?
Target-size compression removes metadata by default to save space, which also removes the GPS location.
